The Drakensberg Mountains form the highest part of the Great Escarpment, rising up to well over 3000 metres and proclaimed a World Heritage site in 2000.
On this 7-day holiday, flying in from CPT and JNB, you'll experience all the glorious aspects of 'the Berg'. You'll relax and enjoy the grandeur and tranquillity of the mountains, and the more active will revel in the walks with our guide on portions of the best mountain trails. There are exciting outings by minibus to enjoy beauty spots, see the superlative rock-art of the area, and hear stories of courage and tragedy at major Boer War sites such as Colenso, Spioenkop, and Ladysmith. A must for bird lovers is our visit the world-famous hide from which we can observe the extremely rare Lammergeier (Bearded Vulture) and many other birds of prey.
The places we stay at are holiday paradises in themselves! Firstly in the chalets at Giants Castle Game Reserve (3 nights), with its lovely gardens, awesome views and abundant birdlife. And then the famous Cathedral Peak Hotel (3 nights), notable for its superb setting and garden and its rich variety of leisure options including bowls, walks, putt-putt, golf and much more. The tour returns through the lovely Natal Midlands, visiting artists' studios and cosy country shops, where you can treat yourself to gifts as mementos of the trip!
